About HMS Office of External Education Led by David H. Roberts, M.D., Dean for External Education and Associate Professor of Medicine, the Office of External Education offers live course, online and blended learning options to individuals, companies, and institutions. We work with HMS departments, our affiliated hospitals, and schools across Harvard University to deliver non-degree programs to multiple audiences including consumers, pre-health learners considering clinical professions, as well as mid-career clinicians and executives.
The Office for External Education is comprised of four operating units: The Office of Online Learning (HMX) for those considering health careers, Executive Education for non-clinician executives, Harvard Health Publications, serving consumers, and Global and Continuing Education for mid-career clinicians.
Position Overview The Senior Director of Marketing will be responsible for developing and leading the External Education marketing strategy in a global, highly competitive and evolving industry. This individual will work with product teams in each unit to create unified messaging and translation of the HMS brand to all the customer outlets including non-traditional, as well as formulating and managing sales and marketing campaigns. The role requires strategic thinking, creative problem solving, ability to manage overall marketing budget, resources, and people, as well as experience leading change in collaboration with senior peers. The Senior Director of Marketing will be evaluated on global brand awareness, enrollment and revenue growth. This individual will act as a thought-leader and change agent for the brand, including all aspects of branding, public image, marketing and advertising strategy; external communication; public and industry relations and policy; sales campaigns, and marketing metrics,

Create overall strategies that build awareness, generate leads, drive revenue and enhance existing and new partnerships across various distribution channels.
Lead branding initiatives, sales/marketing revenue generation programs, and marketing operations across the organization that connects multiple products in coordinated offerings globally.
Manage product campaigns to increase awareness, produce leads and partnerships, and close sales to generate revenue through a range of marketing channels (online and offline advertising, social media, outbound initiatives and email campaigns, etc.)
In collaboration with business development and business unit owners, continually refine comprehensive go-to-market plan across geos, channels and market segments while utilizing critical market and competitive research to segment and define target markets for best industry penetration strategy.
Create marketing platform operations strategy, and train internal staff and external resources on implementation.
Manage and direct investments in CRM, marketing automation, analytics and other tools.
Develop and manage marketing budgets.
Oversee market research, reporting, and analytics.
Manage the work of outside agencies, consultants, and other vendors.
Leverage marketing specialists across the organization for project execution.
Liaison among other marketing/PR departments.

Bachelor's degree and 10 or more years of directly related experience in marketing, product management and/or business development, including global markets. Proven experience in a leadership role. Occasional travel required.
MBA or master's degree in marketing or related discipline preferred. Experience working across a diverse portfolio and creating coherent branding that connects disparate product offerings and markets. Successful track record of entrepreneurial leadership, strategic marketing, brand-building and demonstrated business acumen in both B2B and B2C environments; ideally with educational products and services. Extensive experience developing strategies for digital and direct marketing, market research, SEO/SEM, social media, content marketing, web presence, mobile, channel selection and optimization, creative direction, PR, and sales. Knowledge and expertise with marketing and sales automation software, e.g. HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce and software tools such as Google Analytics, Tableau, Wordpress, SurveyMonkey, etc. Passion for analytics, with drive to build comprehensive data/financial analysis models and extensive experience driving decisions from data. Experience managing organizational change as part of a senior team, and understanding of different functional disciplines including finance and IT. Proven ability to thrive working across a complex organization. A track record of building and managing teams. Past experience creating demand generation center ("demand waterfall") is a plus.
