The Senior Director, Marketing & Brand is the chief architect of the BSO brand strategy serving its many high-profile offerings, including Symphony Hall, Tanglewood, Boston Pops, July 4th, Tanglewood Learning Institute, Tanglewood Music Center, and Popular Artists series. This pivotal senior staff position is a rich opportunity for the seasoned cultural marketing leader and change maker possessing a proven track record of revenue success, national and international arts industry perspective, team development, and strategic as well as tactical evolution.
The Senior Director will manage and ensure the continuous professional development of four direct reports and their divisions: Director of Marketing & Audience Development, Director of Content & Digital Services, Director of Patron Experience, and Director of Retail Operations. This role is also responsible for the effective leadership and unification of external marketing agencies to ensure that all marketing efforts on behalf of the BSO are working in alignment, and in service to the company’s financial, engagement, and audience development goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership of the Marketing & Brand division in the effective creation, deployment, and ongoing optimization of organizational marketing strategy
Facilitating open and active communication across all departments in service to a unified and friction-less patron experience from introduction to concert attendance
Ensuring that the strategic needs of each BSO sub-brand is being served by the Marketing & Brand division, while also serving the cohesive brand goals of the BSO
Establishment and management of the organization’s overall marketing budget, including all aspects of the Marketing & Audience Development, Content and Digital and Services, Patron Experience, and Retail Operations divisions
Collaboration with the COO and Business office in determining season revenue projections, and providing programmatic input to BSO leadership in this area
Setting attendance and measurable audience development goals for the BSO to realize its potential as a vital cultural destination in Boston and Western Massachusetts, and serving a diverse audience representative of the regional population
Collaboration with senior members of the Development team to ensure that strong donor prospects are identified from the ticket-buyer base, and that all sales and fundraising messages are coordinated in a way that puts the patron relationship first
Identification and ongoing management of external marketing agencies to ensure that the BSO is continuously working with optimal partners to fulfill all campaign needs
Collaboration with the Public Relations and Corporate Partnership divisions to ensure that the BSO story is effectively told in the activation of all earned media and sponsor relationships
Provide guidance to Retail Operations to optimize customer experience and inventory
15+ years of progressive leadership positions in large organizations, with a preference for not-for-profit cultural organizations; knowledge of classical music strongly preferred
Exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities
Strong proficiency with data-driven decision making, and an ability to cultivate a team culture of rigorous quantitative inquiry
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with many competing priorities
