Manages marketing for all revenue-generating programs/activities in the Society such as membership, subscribership, advertising, book sales, product promotion and sales, annual meeting exhibits, online seminars, and special meetings, constantly analyzing trends, in order to recommend and implement plans for growth and development of the $1+million revenue stream.
Develops and implements membership recruitment and retention plans as requested
Creates, organizes and manages a yearly calendar of all mailings and other mass-communications to members, subscribers, and prospects
Manages member inquiry responses to insure that all members have responses within no longer than 24 hours, presumably almost immediately. Responds to inquiries, concerns etc. Resolves complaints.
Organizes and implements plan for yearly billing cycle and schedule. Update all forms and database components corresponding to billing annually
Analyzes trends in membership growth and retention and makes recommendations as necessary
Cultivates, administers, and promotes member service and benefit programs
Works with Coordinator, Membership & Meetings to ensure smooth implementation of membership and subscribership responsibilities assigned to the Coordinator by the Executive Director
Maintains (assisted by Coordinator) integrity and consistency of membership database and timeliness of member-based web pages. Runs reports and troubleshoots on regular basis to ensure data is accurate.
Prepares and maintains monthly statistical reports on membership and subscribership
Generates mailing lists for third-party vendor for publication fulfillment, helps set print runs with Manager, Publications, and ensures that members and subscribers receive their periodicals
Manages relationship with third-party vendor for election launched in January each year as well as provides election support to vendor relative to membership authentications
Implements annual student recruitment project each September
Marketing & Promotion
Develops and implements marketing campaigns and promotions to support all SAA programs and activities including but not limited to membership, publications, meetings, and the online seminar series.
Cultivates (with the Manager, Communications and Fundraising) multifaceted promotional campaigns using a wide variety of mediums including print, email, and social media
Works with the Manager, Communications and Fundraising to ensure social media presence
Works to increase brand awareness and Society name recognition
Cultivates external relationships to promote SAA marketing opportunities to publishers, service providers, product suppliers, and other vendors in the field
Sells advertisements for all SAA publications and SAA.org
Oversees job advertisement sales, postings and billings
Researches current market trends and makes recommendations for marketing/promotional venues and plans to increase SAA’s income base
Creates and implements marketing/promotional plans for new products, publications, and other initiatives on as needed basis
Works with Executive Director on pricing structures as requested
Ensures some SAA gear is available as warrants, such as at the SAA booth of the Annual Meeting
Annual Meeting & Special Meetings
Sells exhibit booth space, advertising and sponsorships
Coordinates and oversees all operations of the annual meeting exhibit hall including booth rentals, floor plan layouts, furniture and decorator services, and freight movement scheduling while serving as liaison and primary onsite contact between SAA and decorating company. Coordinates build-out of registration and other build-outs with Executive Director’s input and manages build-outs onsite
Manages the SAA booth at the annual meeting
Provides support and cultivates relationships with exhibitors and advertisers, providing timely and relevant information
Coordinates SAA traveling booth and oversee display elements and annual promotional schedule and when requested may travel to assist in booth staffing or arrange for staffing by members of the Society.
Assists Native American Scholarships Committee with the silent auction preparations
Manages membership requirement for submissions at meetings
Ensures, through partnership with Manager, Information Services, that the submissions process is aligned with membership deadlines
Manages budgets of all membership, marketing, advertising, and annual meeting exhibit hall programs; assists Coordinator with budget for subscribership services
Reviews membership, subscriber, and advertising procedures, and where necessary suggests and implements improvements and innovations as well as maintains procedures manual
Undertakes special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
Reports to Executive Director and has regular contact with all staff members
Teams with Manager, Publications on annual publications catalog
Teams with Manager, Information Services to launch submissions system each year
Teams with Coordinator, Membership and Meetings to ensure superlative member/customer service
Acts as contact to members, advertisers, exhibitors, and others
Serves as staff liaison to the Student Affairs Committee
Support the activities of the Native American Scholarships Committee Silent Auction
Provides support for interest groups with Coordinator, Membership and Meetings
Must have 3-5 years experience at a professional society by providing friendly and professional customer service, resolving member and customer questions, and marketing their products and membership.
Must be proficient with excel, articulate, and a highly organized project planner, capable of following through independently to achieve goals, and excellent author of clear and compelling marketing messages.
Prefer candidates with experience on iMIS and/or Constant Contact.
B.A. or B.S. required (bonus points for a major or minor in anthropology or archaeology).
