The Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership, launched in January 2010, prepares engineers and scientists from students to seasoned professionals with the multidisciplinary skills to lead enterprises of all scales, in industry, government and the nonprofit sector. The Fung Institute is headquartered in UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, which is recognized for its educational and research excellence and is consistently ranked among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States.
The Fung Institute offers educational programs that combine leadership coursework in technology innovation and management with intensive study in an area of technical specialization. This integrated knowledge cultivates leaders who can make insightful decisions with the confidence that comes from a synthesized understanding of technological, marketplace and operational implications.
The Fung Institute will support the development of additional College of Engineering educational offerings emphasizing engineering leadership, including undergraduate courses, certificate programs and a range of professional education options.
This position oversees the marketing agenda and is a key player in recruitment efforts. It involves activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging external constituencies through programs, events, products, and services primarily related to marketing. The position requires analysis of identified audiences and the development of programs, services, and outreach to meet identified needs and influence public perception; brand development; and working with the media (traditional and social), vendors, and other marketing channels to meet marketing and recruitment goals.
75% Marketing and Digital Communications:
The Marketing & Recruitment Specialist Coordinates all Marketing and Digital Communications for the Fung Institute to promote awareness of our mission and of our MEng programs within the campus community and to the general public.
Coordinates with Fung Institute leadership to understand constituencies, establish marketing strategy, and create a targeted communications plan.
Collaborates with stakeholders (students, faculty, alumni, and staff) on creating marketing content for distribution via the various channels. Content may include people/project profiles, advertising campaigns, program brochures, newsletters, and blogs.
Manages the branding, design, and technical updates to Fung Institute websites. Develops website content and architecture to reflect overall communications goals and strategy. Ensures all data is current and solicits new content on a regular basis.
Maintains Fung social media channels via branding, content, and technical support.
Develops and enforces Fung Institute brand guidelines across all digital and print materials. Manages design and production of branded digital communications materials including logos, and other identity elements.
Researches, analyzes, monitors and evaluates marketing efforts for the Fung Institute to measure effectiveness and reports results to the Director of Academic Affairs. Develops a set of marketing metrics to measure and track success of various initiatives and online efforts.
Oversees video and photography needs, including hiring photographers and taking photos as needed. Manages image inventory.
Maintains and upgrades digital communications tools and online accounts including CRM database, video hosting, event registration, online forms, and other web-based accounts. Manages tool integration and troubleshooting as needed.
Coordinates with vendors to design and produce marketing materials including signage, banners, pens, bags, giveaways. Establishes and maintains contacts with internal and external marketing professionals and vendors.
A percentage of above responsibilities may be accomplished through direction and supervision of one of more student workers.
Attends major Fung events to provide support as it relates to the duties outlined above.
25% Admissions and Recruitment:
Works with Fung Institute staff on developing and implementing student recruitment strategies for programs.
Manages the Admissions Ambassador Program, which trains and schedules alumni and student volunteers to conduct admissions interviews and participate in recruitment events.
Presents on behalf of the Fung Institute at information sessions (campus and online), graduate fairs, and other local and international recruitment events. Limited travel may be required.
