Boston University's Creative Services division is looking for a smart, talented and experienced Sr. Print Production Specialist/Print Buyer. Attention to detail, uncompromising ethical standards, and inspiring enthusiasm are required. Position supports the Print Design department of Marketing & Communications by managing the print production process from conception through fulfillment, including quoting, planning, scheduling, quality control, manufacturing and communications with internal teams and external vendors. Print projects include magazines, brochures, direct mail, large posters, signage, and invitations, to name just a few of the marketing materials that you will manage. You will collaborate with a creative team of graphic designers, print professionals, editors, proofreaders, and account executives on high- visibility, top-priority projects at Boston University, reporting to the Manager of Production. If you have a strong production knowledge of printing technologies (both offset and digital), pre-press, print production, Adobe Creative Suite, paper and ink along with experience leveraging print, we want to hear from you!
Salary: Grade 74
B.A./B.S. or equivalent with 5-8 years of print production expertise on the buying side (negotiating cost and schedules). Subject matter expertise across a wide variety of printed materials and processes, including collateral, direct mail and magazine production, as well as large format and promotional products. In-depth knowledge of current print industry standards and trends, including: offset printing (sheet and web), lithography, digital, large-format, variable data, mail services, bindery, finishing options, web-to-print systems, creation of online storefronts, promotional products industry. Ability to lead and direct the print processes, including advising on best product choices and production methods, based on extensive industry knowledge and experience. Mentor and educate Creative and Account teams. Ability to communicate and present to internal stakeholders at varied levels, and to interface directly with clients as needed. Expertise in color management across a wide variety of printed materials, including proven success in directing the retouch process, and managing press-checks. Technical / Computer literacy in Mac environment including: Microsoft Office products; Adobe products including Creative Cloud and Acrobat Pro; web-based job tracking systems including or similar to Active Collab; financial software: SAP, Oracle or similar; google docs and/or other web-share documents; Outlook products; a high comfort level with new tools and trends.
